This writing dabble comes from a piece I wrote during NaNoWriMo in November. It was a YA Sci-fi about a girl who lost everything, her parents and her legs in a car accident. She blames herself and swears never to break the rules again. It’s not perfect, as I have only done a brush over edit, but I really liked it, and I hope you do too.
Clang! The sound vibrated through every inch of her skull, yanking her out of the cool dark oblivion and back to the land of the living. She groaned, covering her ears with her hands. A face appeared inches from her. White pale cheeks and red lips. Eyes deep black holes. She blinked. Crisp green eyes appeared, staring into hers.
“You’re awake,” the girl. Her voice soft and barely hearable over the banging in her skull.
“Where am I?” she asked, rubbing at her forehead where the headache threatened to explode.
“On the other side.”
Willa blinked and rubbed her eyes. Did they really need the lights so bright in here, wherever here was? “Other side?”
“Is that my name?”
The girl bit her bottom lip, her long blonde hair falling in front of her eyes. “No. I think I should go get someone,” the girl said, backing away and bumping into the table. The silver tray on top, cluttered to the ground, the items on top spinning across the floor.
“Sorry,” she said, picking up the tray and quickly gathered everything up, placing it all back on the table. The whole time she bit her bottom lip, and kept glancing between the items she was picking up and her.
Something was wrong.
Once everything was back on the table, the girl marched to the door. “I’ll be back in a tick, wait here,” she said over her shoulder.
Where else would she go?
The door banged closed behind the girl, and she was alone.
